Fine Afghan Kazakh Wool Square Rug

Hand knotted in northern Afghanistan by Hazara women in a cottage industry setting using handspun wool on upright looms. The word, ‘Kazak’ means ‘rough-rider’ and describes a race of restless, roaming, troublesome people. Even though they adopted more sedentary lives, the independent spirit of their ancestors continues in their rug designs.
