Engaging Entryways – Afghan Dragon Carpet
Posted on January 3rd, 2013 by Joshua Kebabian
First impressions are lasting and this gorgeous gallery (kelleghi, kellei) size runner is a knockout in the center hall of a Connecticut shoreline home! Recently purchased from us, it measures approximately 5′ x 12′ and was hand-knotted in northern Afghanistan by Hazara women. It was made using handspun vegetally dyed, local wool from sheep inhabiting the mountainous region of Ghazni. This piece took the weavers nearly one year to produce and will last for decades.
The design was inspired by an ancient “Dragon” carpet originally from Armenia or the Karabagh region in the Caucasus mountains. “Dragon” carpets, or carpets with the dragon design, were made for royalty. Don’t forget that your entryway carpet will be the first thing to greet you when you come home!
Good post, keep up the good work… You efforts putting this blog together was worth the while. I appreciate you sharing this with the rest of us JohnKebabian.
Thanks again!
Appreciate the feedback 🙂
