Antique Tekke Bokhara Rug

Hand knotted by Turkmen Tekke weavers in Turkmenistan. The most influential of the Turkoman tribes in the nineteenth century was the Tekke. They occupied most of the habitable part of modern day Turkmenistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran to the north. The Tekke Bokhara pattern consists of an octagon surrounding a quartered hexagon, and if you look closely at the inner ornamentation of the Tekke motif you can see relics of bird forms. This rug is a perfect example of classic tribal rug weaving. This true antique tribal rug is in excellent condition.
