Afghan Chinoiserie Runner Rug
Hand knotted in northern Afghanistan by Turkmen women using handspun Ghazni wool and silk from Samarkand. After the weaving is completed, the rug undergoes a rigorous antiquing process. This design is inspired by an original antique Chinoiserie textile from China. Chinoiserie is a French term signifying “Chinese-esque” and is characterized by the use of fanciful imagery of China incorporating asymmetry, playful design and intricate patterns.
