Antique Persian Halvai Bidjar Rug

Bidjar, like nearby Senneh, is a principal Kurdish city in Iran. It is known for producing the best and finest Kurdish carpets. Bidjar is one of the fine weaves of Persia, and therefore producing intricate curvilinear designs isn’t a problem; however, traditional Kurdish tribal designs have a distinct geometric style that influence every Bidjar produced. Bidjars are known for their practically indestructible construction, fine weave, glorious colors and truly one-of-a-kind village designs. This piece in particular is a Halvai quality Bidjar, meaning it is the best of the best of the Bidjars that were ever woven. It is in excellent condition and everything is original. The border is unusual and features a lovely pattern of bird couplets which repeats all around. The field has beautiful arrangements of flowers with birds as well. It is a work of Persian art and craftsmanship.
