Persian Kashkuli Ultimate Gabbeh Rug
$2,620.00
Our Persian Kashkuli Gabbeh rugs are hand knotted with handspun, vegetable dyed wool in Southwest Iran by master artisans. The wool comes from the Zagros Mountains, and is highly valued due to the combination of its inherent physical properties, the traditional methods used in its processing, and its deep cultural connection to a region renowned for its textile heritage. The Kashkuli women are known for their exceptional skill in weaving, and as a semi-nomadic tribe, rugs created by these women are one of a kind, unique heirlooms.
Gabbehs history began from the functional necessity for warmth and comfort. The women would use the offcuts of yarn and weave together ‘raw and uncut’ floor coverings, known as “gabbehs” in Persian. From its inception through today, colorfully dyed wool is used with an intuitive
sense, forming designs that echo the women’s dreams and the world they inhabit. When Europeans discovered these pieces for the first time in the late nineteeth century, they were captivated by their natural beauty and function, leading to the production of gabbeh rugs for the Western market.
Kebabian Rugs’ collection of Persian Kashkuli Gabbeh’s are finely woven, a departure from the coarse weave of the originals, yet the beauty and simplicity at the heart of the gabbeh remains intact. Furthermore, they are woven by the Kashkuli people, who weave these rugs in the same villages and seasonal settlements of their ancestors, preserving their history and culture. Their incredible work maintains the tradition of gabbeh rugs, while also creating new rugs that exemplify the very best in form and design.
PANTONE shades: We do our best to find the closest match to one or multiple colors in the rug. The shade card we choose may not always be the perfect one, but we do our best (it’s a lot of work)! At times we may show multiple shade cards so you can get a better sense of color. Finally, when photographing rugs from the same group (shipment, collection, SKU, etc.) we will often use one or two shade card(s) so that you can get a good sense of the coloration. Hope you enjoy viewing our beautiful rugs!
